LEGO® Scooby Doo Mystery Mansion 75904 Review

The LEGO Mystery Mansion is the biggest sof far of the Scooby Doo sets. It costs $89.99 and comes with 860 pieces making it about 10.5 cents per piece and slightly overpriced. It comes with 7 minifigures, 4 of which are exclusive to the this set. The non-exclusive minifigures are Scooby, Shaggy and Daphne and the exclusive ones are Velma with a magnifying glass and map, a Ghost with a ball chain, Black Knight with a pike and a Vampire. All of the minifigures are nice but I especially like Velma and the Black Knight. All of the monsters' helmets can be removed to reveal who they really are; Mr Wickles, Bob Oakley and Bluestone the Great. There is a Mystery Inc motorbike and sidecar which is small but good-looking and has space for 2 minifigures. The Mansion itself is built up of 3 main parts; a Greenhouse, a Clock Tower and a House. The greenhouse looks really nice with broken glass walls and roof. Inside, there are 2 pumpkins and a man-eating plant build that looks great. Apart from that, there are no other play features but it does look good. The clock tower also acts as sort of the main entrance to the build. All of the door detail is purposely wonky to give it the old, run-down look. Inside, starting from the bottom, there is a removable floor panel that reveals a secret key. However, it's not as easy as it seems as there is a large spike ball that would knock Mystery Inc away and is operated by turning a knob. A knob by the side of the clock turns it and when it strikes midnight, the balcony turns to reveal the vampire who comes with a coffin that he lies in. I like the way is works but I don't like the pointed clock hand. The final section, starting from the bottom again, is a kitchen area for Shaggy and Scooby to cook their jumbo burger. There is some nice detail here. Finally, on the next floor, there is a safe containing the treasure Mystery Inc have been looking for. In conclusion, then, I think this is a pretty good set that has great minifigures, good play value and okay looks. However, I do have a couple of issues. I don't like the hand on the clock nor do I like the look of the curved claws on the roof and I also think this is slightly overpriced. Apart from that, though, I think this is a good way to end Wave 1 of the Scooby Doo sets.
