LEGO® Technic Crawler Crane 42042 Review

The LEGO Crawler Crane costs $149.99 and comes with 1401 pieces making it about 10.7 cents per piece but those pieces do include a battery box and motor. This measures 33cm long, 20cm wide and 61cm high. The bodywork not this looks really nice and I love the cab and engine detail. However, I think the colour scheme is a bit dull and boring. The whole thing can move via the motor which works well and is nice to use instead of pushing it manually. Even the rotation of the body is motorised which works well in theory but in practise makes it hard to grab the switch. The boom can raise and lower via a cable system just like cranes in real life do. The final motorised function is that the claw on the end can raise and lower. The claw itself can be opened and closed by turning a knob by the side and there is a (kind of) load included that doubles up as a boom extension depending on what you want to do with it. The alternate build for this is a Crawler Tower Crane. This, to me, looks a bit awkward and weird with the 90 degree angle but the functions are good. This build comes with the driving function, lowering claw, moving claw, closing claw and can also be manually rotated. My overall view of a this set is generally good but I think there's a couple of things that need touching up. These are the colour scheme and the fact that I thought manual rotation was fine but I suppose extras aren't bad. Also, the B Model doesn't look great. Apart from those things, I really like this set as it has some nice functions and detail and I would recommend it to Technic fans.
